Dear SMS Families,
Belated, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope that you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend and were able to join the many St. Patrick’s Day festivities in the area. The quote above from St. Patrick, reminds us of our Lenten purpose; to purify our souls of sin and selfishness. Our students, grades 3 through grade 8, had the chance to cleanse their souls for Lent by going to confession one morning throughout the past few weeks. Tonight, our 2nd graders will receive First Reconciliation. This is a Sacrament that is another step that will take them closer to God before their First Holy Communion. Thank you to Mrs. Moffat, and Sr. Joan Brennan for their work preparing our students for this special celebration.
I am happy to report that all our standardized testing has been completed! The IOWA’s and CogAT’s will be a thing of the past, as next year we will be adopting new standardized tests that will align better with our new CCSS (Common Core State Standards). You will receive more information about this in the future.
The Catholic War Veterans had a Safety Coloring Contest and we have some honorable mentions who have won $10! Congratulations to: First grader, Alishay Atif and second graders, Madeline Luzarraga and Anna Kathleen Sutton! Great job girls!
Our teachers and I try to make ourselves readily available to you and our greater community. When and if there is a time that you need to discuss important items about your child, please do not hesitate to call us or make and appointment. However, student drop-off, pick-up, and class parties, etc. are not conducive to these discussions for privacy reasons and our ability to give you the proper attention.
Now that the weather is getting better, we’ve noticed some parents parking behind the gym while our buses are lined up. Please be aware of the fines for passing buses and most importantly be sure that your child(ren) are not out in that area until all the buses have left our property.
